Photo tips — read this before you upload

Your figure is sculpted from the photo you send, so the photo sets the ceiling on the result. A sharp, well-lit, full-body shot is what we need most — professional event or studio photos work best by far.

✓ What gives the best result

  • Professional photos — event photographers and studio shots carry the detail we need.
  • High resolution, at least 1500px wide, straight from the original file rather than a screenshot.
  • Full body in frame, head to feet, with nothing cropped off.
  • Sharp focus on the person, with the pose clearly readable.
  • Even, bright lighting — natural daylight works well.
  • Clean separation from the background so we can read the outline.
  • A second and third angle if you have them — front plus side is ideal.

✕ What limits the result

  • Blurry, dark, or heavily compressed images.
  • Screenshots, photos of screens, or images saved from social media.
  • Cropped shots that cut off feet, hands, or equipment.
  • Busy backgrounds where the body blends into the crowd.
  • Extreme angles, heavy shadow, or strong filters.
  • Faces very small in frame or turned away from the camera.

Not sure whether your photo will work? Email it to us before you order and we will tell you honestly what we can do with it.

Personalize the base — optional

Your base has two engraving areas: around the side and on top, next to your figure. Fill in what you want and watch the preview update. Leave any field blank for a plain base.

Details matter.

How closely will it match my photo?

Accuracy comes down to the photo you send. Your figure is sculpted into a 3D model based on that image, so it will closely resemble the photo — the pose, the proportions, the clothing and gear that are visible in it.

It will not be an identical copy of you. This is a handmade interpretation at a small scale, not a body scan, and fine facial detail in particular is limited by what the photo actually shows. A sharp, well-lit, full-body photo gets you a figure that reads unmistakably as you. A dark, blurry, or cropped photo limits what we can capture, and the result reflects that.

What kind of photo should I send?

Professional photography gives the strongest result — event photographers and studio shots hold far more usable detail than a quick phone snap. Aim for high resolution, at least 1500px wide, with the full body in frame from head to feet, sharp focus, and even lighting.

Avoid screenshots, images saved from social media, heavy filters, and busy backgrounds. Extra angles help, so send a front view plus a side view when you have both.

How long does it take?

10 to 14 business days from when your photos check out, plus shipping time. If anything is going to hold your order up, we email you.

What is the difference between painted and unpainted?

Painted figures are primed, painted by hand, and sealed with a matte protective coat. Unpainted figures are a clean, solid white — a sculptural look, and a good option if you enjoy painting miniatures yourself.

Can I customize the base?

Yes. The base has two engraving areas, and the fields on this page show a live preview of both. Text set around the side wraps the rim — most people put their name and the race or event name there. The top of the base takes two short lines next to your figure, usually the distance and the finish time. Fill in any or none of it; blank fields ship clean and unmarked.

Can you put two people on one base?

Very likely yes. If you have a clear photo of both people, email us before ordering and we will confirm feasibility and pricing.

What happens after I order?

Your photos reach our studio with a reference code tied to your order. We check that they will work and email you only if we need a better image. Otherwise your figure goes straight into production and ships to you. Need to change something, or have a concern? Email us and we will sort it out with you.

Can I cancel or return my figure?

Every figure is made to order from your photo, so returns are limited. Before production starts, you can cancel for a full refund. Once 3D modeling or printing has begun, cancellations are refunded at 50%. A finished figure can't be returned, but if it arrives damaged or clearly differs from what you ordered, email us within 7 days of delivery and we will make it right. The full details are in our Refund Policy.

How do I care for my figure?

Your figure is 3D-printed in durable PLA. It is heat-sensitive, so keep it out of direct sun and hot cars (above about 120°F it can soften). Dust it with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth, and don't submerge a painted figure. It is a display piece for indoors, not a toy, and it isn't suitable for children under 12.

How do I reach you?

Email support@almaandforma.com at any point, before or after ordering. Include your reference code or order number if you have one.
